Never Give Up Even When Goals Fail?

By Ravi On October 18, 2009 Under List Building

I haven’t posted for a while on my blog about where I stand with my traffic goals. Sorry, but I was little distracted with a few personal things last few days.

Well lets skip the why BS :)

The bottom line is I failed miserably in achieving my traffic goal of 1000 visitors by end on September. I only reached there half way. But all effort is not waste :)

One of my main strategies was to rank (SEO) for some keywords in search engines. Although I haven’t made it to the top yet I am very close with 1st page rankings for few and 2nd page rankings for few keywords.

I believe if I continue my SEO efforts I will be able to achieve my goals soon. Couple of keywords I am targeting should bring about 30 to 40 visitors per day.

That’s it for now. I will post an update soon.

@Sylvester - I checked your blog. One thing I see is most of the content is publised from ezinearticles with authors bio boxes preserved.

Because of the Adsense placements on the blog I am assuming you are trying to monetize the blog via Adsense. In that case your main goal would be free traffic.

If you are targeting SEO then try to get a unique article in there to have a better chance at SEO rankings.

I would work on it in steps:
1. Content
2. SEO
3. Once you have traffic you can test different monetization options to make most of the traffic

Ravi, although you say you “failed miserably”, doesn’t it feel great to fail and still move forward towards your goal? I may be crazy but every time I fail at one of my goals, I get excited. When I fail I am able to learn from it and improve on the things that were working well for that goal and eliminate or change what wasn’t working.

Keep moving forward. Soon you’ll be upping that goal to 2,000 visitors!

I agree with Eric. You should feel great that even though you’ve failed miserably, you were still able to move up.

Take failure as a challenge!

Hi Ravi.. first time I’ve been here but have to say I really like the clean look of your blog. Second thanks for such an honest post. It’s nice to hear real stories and not just the “got 400 visitors today” type stuff that often is non-sense.

Do you have similar goals for increasing the number of people on your list?

Good luck!

Allen

Allen, yes that is definitely the goal. Want to get the traffic going first and then get the list building going. Currently I am focusing on SEO traffic. This blog is my part time baby so I work on and off. When I am able to spend more time I will also focus on social media traffic.

The thing is…most people give up just before they would start succeeding. Remember, any keyword SEO strategies will take about 3 months to see results for somewhat competitive terms. Keep it up and you will rise in the rankings.
